A number of Western Union agencies across Belize are closing down tomorrow after "BTALCO" today announced that it will discontinue service in Belize.
The company which has been fighting with the Central Bank from the start of the year is as of this morning under audit by the bank. And apparently, now BTALCO has decided that it's not worth the headache and has thrown in the towel rather than continue the fight over extensions to its operating license and foreign exchange requirements.
So effective tomorrow the company has announced that it will be closing down and directing all its traffic to the Belize Chamber of Commerce'sWestern Union outlets. BTALCO had 15 people employed and operated offices countrywide. A BTALCO Representative said that customers should not see an interruption in service as the sub agents should be handed over to the Chamber of Commerce. The three outlets owned and operated by BTALCO will however close down.
