They were revealed first last night on 7NEWS and today BTL officially released their new rates for cell customers.

As we reported, BTL will be offering 25% more minutes to their postpaid customers. The company claims that with these new rates, postpaid customers will pay as low as 30 cents per minute during peak periods. That works out to a 40% price cut on per minute rates that are currently at 55 cents per minute. With Speednet's Smart, postpaid customers pay an average of about 38 cents and there are no peak or off-peak periods.

For prepaid customers, BTL says they will see a 23% reduction in call rates and that they will amount to calls as cheap as 46 cents per minute. And while the official rate will still be $1.07 a minute on a prepaid call, the company says its "effective rate" will be cheaper because when you purchase a prepaid card, you will get more minutes free. That bonus will vary from 15% more on a $10 card to 30% more on a $50 Digicell card. Over at Speednet, they charge 75 cents during peak and 55 cents during off-peak. And again Speednet bills per second while BTL bills per minute.

It may sound slightly complex, but both companies will have their charge sheets in the paper this week for you to work out the details.
