The media landscape has changed dramatically tonight, as Channel 5 is now owned by BTL. Outgoing managing director Stuart Krohn today confirmed the buy-over. He would not discuss figures but said that it is effective immediately. Krohn confirmed that he no longer has a job at Channel 5, and it will be run by it new CEO Amalia Mai. He could not confirm who will take over the news operations, though Janelle Chanona is rumoured for the job.
Krohn tells us he is moving unto real estate business in the south formerly owned by Channel 5’s parent company Great Belize Productions. Prior to this, a Michael Ashcroft related company held a minority shareholding – reported to be around 25% - in Channel 5. Though he has disclaimed ownership of BTL, it is widely accepted that Ashcroft controls the telecom company.
