And while those government ministers were meeting with cane farmers, Michael Espat, the Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance Economic Development, and CEO Dr. Osmond Martinez, were meeting with representatives of the Banana Growers Association.

The Association is headed by brothers Tony and Eugene Zabaneh. The purpose of this meeting was to get a detailed report on the state of the industry and discuss financial opportunities.

Leroy Martinez, an economist who's the focal point for the Green Climate Fund discussed the financing opportunities from the GCF and other international and regional funding agencies, that can assist with climate change impacts.

The meeting was a result of a GCF readiness project that was recently launched to boost the capacity of Belize's private sector to access climate finance for investments in climate change projects.
