But while he says he's not concerned about parking for the private sector businesses, he has made special arrangements for one private business owner. The last time we asked the mayor about Chicken Dread, he said he wasn't aware of any deals with him. However, we found minutes of a meeting from 2022 which states that a motion was passed to finalize an arrangement in regards to parking his truck near the Digi Park.
When we asked him about it again today, he deflected:
Bernard Wagner, Mayor of Belize City
"I don't know why you continue to harp on a small entrepreneur, Chicken Dread, I don't know what is the end goal-"
Courtney Menzies:
"Sir but the question is, is there a special parking arrangement for him?"
Bernard Wagner, Mayor of Belize City
"We are about driving young entrepreneurs, every time we have super sales, we have night festivals, it's about pushing local entrepreneurs, young entrepreneurs to be their own bosses, I can't be standing here and be concerned about an entity, a small entrepreneur and we are spending so much time worrying about a small entity that is providing a service. Certainly we want Chicken Dread to comply and my team is looking at that."
