And in Belize City, the construction of the new Belcan Bridge is set to begin as early as April. The bidding process is over and the budget went a little over what was initially planned due to the additional infrastructure it will require. When asked, Minister Espat said that whenever the contract is awarded they will start immediately:

Julius Espat, Minister of MIDH
"I think the Belcan is about 20 million approximately because it now includes the temporary vehicular bridge, so originally when we had put it out to bid the first time, it was only a pedestrian temporary bridge that we were going to put but after we analyzed along with the City Council, we realized that if we only put a pedestrian crossing it would create serious congestion in the city so we decided that the temporary bridge would also be vehicular traffic and so those bids came in already, it now financial evaluation and technical evaluation and so that should be out, I would say you should have the award been given in a week or two time."
