He's accused of raping and impregnating his step daughter - then forcing her to abort it - and tonight a 26 year old City Council Labourer is in jail.
A Honduran national of Belize City today appeared before Magistrate Earl Jones where he was read two counts of carnal knowledge. This comes after his 14 year old stepdaughter told police that the weekly abuse started in June of 2003 when she was still 13 and continued up until December. She became pregnant and he then took her to a clinic where she was given medication to abort her 2-month-old fetus; this allegedly happened twice in late 2003.
In court today the father - whose name authorities have asked us not to release to protect the child - entered no plea because it's a Supreme Court matter. The prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds that he may abscond to Honduras, his home country. Magistrate Jones remanded the accused until February 27th. Of note is that the man admitted to having sex with the child, giving the excuse that he was drunk when it occurred.
