She was supposed to judge an accused murderer but today a juror told the court she can't. Why? - Because of her religion.
The story played out this afternoon in Justice Troadio John Gonzalez's courtroom number 2. The jury was empanelled to hear the murder case
Of Gilbert Martinez, which was supposed to start this afternoon. But before it could, a female juror told Justice Gonzalez that she couldn't bring herself to judging her fellow man because she is a Jehovah's Witness.
Gonzalez resumed court where he also had a shocker of his own. Because the jury was already empanelled, Gonzalez said he wasn't about to just accept the word of this juror since she should have mentioned it earlier. So she now has to provide the court with a letter from her priest or spiritual advisor confirming her claim. If she doesn't, Gonzalez says he will issue a warrant for arrest.
The court's time was already wasted though and the entire jury was dismissed. The court will go through the motions of empanelling another jury beginning Thursday. As for the murder case well Gilbert Martinez is charged for murdering Benjamin Ku back on February 14th of 2002 in the Cayo district.
