He shot one of the city most well known political operatives in the heat and hype leading up to the 2003 general elections - but 28 year old Stuart Sutherland will be fined for his crime.
On February 9 of 2003 Sutherland went to Lake Independence political officer, Evan "Duck" Garnett's home and shot him in the arm and leg.
This week the case went to the Supreme Court, where Sutherland was tried for use of deadly means of harm, dangerous harm and wounding. First he told the court that he fired the pistol in self-defense and later said that the gun went off accidentally. With that the jury found him guilty of the lesser charge of wounding at 2:15 this afternoon.
Justice Troadio Gonzalez fined Sutherland $1,000 or in default 1 year in jail.
