Scandal continues to swirl around the Department of Immigration and as 7NEWS first reported last night it now extends to falsified visas.
Yesterday evening police working out of headquarters in Belmopan descended on Brad's Store in the Farmer's market where they found 4 fake Belizean visas. Police arrested the proprietor 40-year-old Kim Wai Chee who joined his relative 34-year-old Kim Jen Chee in custody.
Kim Jen had been picked up an hour earlier at his Vernon street branch of Brad's store. There, police found a stash of weaponry and cash, specifically US $25,000 along with a pump action shotgun and a 9-millimeter pistol complete with live rounds for both. Kim Jen has been charged for two counts of possession of illegal firearms and ammunition, while Kim Wai who had the visas has been charged for four counts of possession of forged documents, uttering false documents and forgery.
Our sources say that is an investigation into wider circulation of false visas but it has not been determined if it involves collusion at the Immigration Department. In the wake of this growing swell of scandal, Director Peter Parchue will be removed and transferred to the NEMO office, reportedly in early June.
