Last night 7NEWS broke the story of Scout Leader Antonio Aragon who was charged for raping a 12 year old female member of his troop. Well today the Scout Association of Belize announced that Aragon has been suspended from his duties as a scout leader in the 16th Orange Walk La Immaculada Scout Troop.
In a letter dated Wednesday from Scout Executive Hilberto Riverol, Aragon is directed to refrain from attending Scout meetings or participating in any Scout organized event until after the National Committee has reviewed his case. The Scout Association of Belize issued a release in response to our story reassuring parents and supporters of the Scout movement that it stands committed to working towards a solution to the ongoing problem of child abuse.
Aragon's 12 year old victim told police that she was in Aragon's pickup last Thursday when he pulled off into a feeder road and raped her. Aragon who is also a primary school teacher was released on $5,000 bail yesterday.
