He claims he was intoxicated but in court today Anthony Reneau learnt that being drunk isn't an excuse for committing a crime which in this case was attempted burglary.

The 38 year old was busted on Tuesday evening by eagle-eyed neighbors who saw him break open the locks on the shutter at the Snowbiz Snack Shop on Princess Margaret Drive. Reneau was arrested and today appeared before Chief Magistrate Herbert Lord where he pleaded guilty to attempted burglary. Reneau told Lord he admits he broke open the locks but invoked the rarely used defense of being drunk. Lord told him that is not an excuse, warning him the penalties would have stiffer if he had completed the burglary. With that said, Reneau was sentenced to 5 years in jail.
