A young child was crushed to death on Central American Boulevard this morning in a true traffic tragedy. Sometime around 9:40, 19 year old mother of two, Elizabeth Gushun was riding her bicycle on Central American Boulevard accompanied by her son 1 year ten month old Elvis Mayen who was seated in a carrying basket on the bicycle. When she arrived the intersection of Neal pen road she tried to squeeze her bicycle between the flow of traffic and a parked vehicle. But she lost control of her bike and fell into the path of oncoming traffic, which put her directly under the wheels of a tanker truck. We spoke to one eyewitness who wished to appear off camera but told us of the terrible sight that unfolded:

Eyewitness

"The young lady was on a bicycle riding her kid at the back on a carrier. She was passing and an eighteen-wheeler truck was passing at the same time. Actually she squeezed herself between the truck and another vehicle parked on the side. She squeezed herself between the big truck and the vehicle that was parked on the side and apparently the back of the bicycle got hooked to the big wheeler, to the truck, and that's when the baby dropped of the bike and she dropped off too. Well actually she was going to get squashed too but she raised her head and the baby was left down and then the big tire from the eighteen wheeler passed over the baby's head and mashed it." "I work at the hospital you know and I'm used to seeing thing and like that but like I just catch like cold seed to see a young baby on the street down there dead like that. I mean its scary and freightening man, honestly. But the scene of it wasn't really a good view out there."

Elizabeth Goshun also has another child, a 7-month-old infant boy. The driver of the gas tanker that ran over the child is Otto Esquivel from orange walk town. Police are investigating to see if any charges will be brought.
