He is accused of raping and sodomizing his 5-year-old stepdaughter; one of the most revolting sex crimes we've ever reported and today, 28 year old Rayford Sanchez was taken to court.
Sanchez who had been detained since Tuesday morning at 5:00 am had a visibly swollen left eye as he was delivered to court by a special CIB escort. He was arraigned on charges of unnatural crime, carnal knowledge and indecent assault. Because of the seriousness of the offence and the perception of a continued threat to the child, he was remanded to prison until February 4th. According to our source, so far Sanchez first told police that he did it, and then, acting on the advice of a relative, he recanted that and refused to sign a caution statement. Those sources say that he gave investigators the excuse that he had been in an accident and had head trauma which affected his judgment. He and the child's mother had been living together for four years.
