A Honduran man trying to make his way to Mexico through Belize is tonight at the Northern Regional Hospital after being shot. Police visited the hospital yesterday at around 6:10 where they found 21 year old Francisco Javier Rivero Guzman suffering from a gunshot to the center of his back.
Investigations by police determined that Guzman and another Honduran man 20 year old Jose Omar Murillo Hernandez were making their way toward the La Union Border Point in Blue Creek Village when the customs officer in charge of the area Miguel Uck ordered them to stop. Instead, the men bolted and Uck began to chase them. He and his licensed 9-millimeter Beretta pistol went off hitting Guzman in the center of his back. Guzman had to be rushed to the Northern Regional Hospital where he is listed in critical condition. As for Uck and the explanation that he fell, police have forwarded the results of their investigation to the DPP for review.
