He was convicted in the United States of molesting a 12-year-old girl and for the last three months convicted sex offender 43-year-old William Lightner was hiding out in Belize, Orange Walk to be exact. Tonight the good news is that Lightner, who has been described as violent - is back in the custody of U.S. Marshals.

How did he escape? Well Lightner served half of his 20 year sentence for the rape and was released on parole, on the condition that he wear a GPS tracking bracelet. American authorities say that sometime around July 21st he cut off the bracelet and broke loose. The next time Lightner was seen was last week in Orange Walk Town. Lightner had apparently entered the country with a fake birth certificate. Belizean authorities caught up to him after U.S. Embassy officials contacted the Immigration Department. There was no fight over deportation as he agreed to voluntarily return to Idaho.

We don't know why he is considered a violent sex offender but he is one of only 31 sex offenders in the entire state of Idaho who are considered violent.
