Taxi driver turned convicted rapist and child molester Dennis Gabourel was today given a ten-year jail sentence for his crimes. Presiding Judge Adolph Lucas sentenced Gabourel to 8 years for rape, 3 years for grievous harm, and 2 years for aggravated assault. That's a total of thirteen years but the 3 years for grievous harm will run concurrent to the 8 years, which added to the two years for aggravated assault brings it to 10.
The 48 year old was convicted last week of raping his ex-girlfriend in September of 2003 after he picked her up from work. She asked for a ride home but told the court that instead of home he took her to the Hangar Area and raped her. She claims Gabourel showed up at her back door the next day where he knocked her out and raped her a second time. Gabourel was found not guilty on the second count of rape but for the assault he was convicted of grievous harm. Gabourel was also charged and convicted of aggravated assault of an indecent nature of his ex-girlfriend's teenage daughter.
The only mitigation plea presented this morning was from Gabourel's Attorney Hubert Elrington.
