A jury convicted him on December 9th for violent raping, stabbing, and abducting his ex-girlfriend with an ice pick and today a judge sentenced 26-year-old Lauriano Ramirez. Justice Michelle Arana sentenced the Honduran national to ten years for aggravated burglary and an additional twelve years for rape. The sentences are to run concurrently so Lauriano will serve a total of 12 years. Today in court, Lauriano's mother and aunt took the stand to make mitigation pleas but instead of pleading for leniency, they insisted on his innocence. When asked if he had anything to say, Lauriano, who only speaks Spanish, shrugged his shoulder. The rape occurred in February of 2004 when the victim alleges that Lauriano barged into her house, argued with her, and then pulled out an ice pick and stabbed her. She claims he then abducted her and took her to an area near lord ridge cemetery where he raped her. Lauriano was undefended.
