Police made a major weapons bust this morning in the city that saw some very deadly weapons removed from the streets. An operation led by Eastern Division boss Crispin Jefferies led to two grenades and a nine-milimeter pistol. Because of the sensitive nature of the operation, police won't say exactly where it happened or when, only that they hope that other seizures will follow. The grenades have been handed over to the Belize Defence Force for further testing to see if they are live.
And another weapons seizure has been reported in the Corozal District. At around 5 yesterday evening police searched a hotel room in Corozal Town where they found a 9 millimeter Sig Sauer pistol loaded with 15 live rounds, two 9 millimeter berretta pistols loaded with 15 rounds and 10 live rounds of ammunition as well as a bag was with 18 rounds of ammunition. They are seen here along with other high-powered weapons seized in the past week and a half.
For the Corozal weapons and ammo, police detained and this evening charged 34-year-old Mexican national David Rendon with three counts of keeping unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He was found in the room at the time.
