He was accused of rape and today 29-year-old Sheldon Baptist was found guilty of carnal knowledge.
His trial began on Monday before Justice John Gonzalez and today a jury of 6 women and 3 men unanimously found him guilty of carnal knowledge and two counts of threat of death.
On January 4th of last year Baptist attacked a 15-year-old girl near her home in Burrell Boom Village. At around 10:30 on that night the girl went to use her outdoor latrine when she heard a noise. When she went outside to investigate she was struck with a rock across the head, choked and punched in the face. She escaped briefly, but he caught up to her and raped her.
Today Baptist was found guilty of committing the crime and will now be
Sentenced on September 6th. His victim is now 16, and in the lat stages of a pregnancy unrelated to the sexual assault.
