Police are asking the public's assistance in identifying a body that was discovered floating in the Macal River in San Ignacio. Sometime around 2:30 yesterday afternoon the body was taken out of the river between the Hawksworth Bridge and the temporary wooden bridge joining Santa Elena and San Ignacio. It is a man about 5 feet 6 inches tall with long hair. While the body is still unidentified, police say there are tattoos which may help them identify it. On the left arm there is a dagger with the word "lucky" written over it, and on the right arm there are two hearts.
As the police ask the public for its assistance, those same San Ignacio residents are none to pleased with the way the entire matter was handled. The body was discovered at 2:30 yesterday afternoon, and it was not removed until 3:30 this afternoon, a full 25 hours later.
The explanation? Well, police could not get a pathologist to examine the body until today when a doctor working in San Ignacio was called in to do the post mortem.
All the while the body was on the bank of the river decomposing causing various businesses in the area to close down because of the awful stench in the air.
