But this afternoon, he called our newsroom to give us his account of what transpired yesterday evening. Via cell-phone from his hospital bed, he told us that he wasn't the one who shot the young man, in fact, he was running from two notorious crime figures, who were trying to kill him. Here's some of what he had to say on the phone.
Leonard 'Ghost' Meyers, Accused
"I had a 38 pistol on me. Two gunmen started to chase me and I have a 'bunnas' on the bottom of my my feet on my big toe and one on my ankle."
Alfonso Noble Reporting,
And this came from the gunmen who were chasing you?
Leonard 'Ghost' Meyers,
"I stood up and somebody fired three shots and then I fired back, about three shots, and later got conscious that it was the police."
Alfonso Noble,
You fired a couple shots at the police, why?
Leonard 'Ghost' Meyers,
"The policeman did not identify himself as a policeman or nothing so when they were shooting after me I ran right and somebody hollered 'bwoy' and fired three shots after me and I fired about three shots out of my 38 revolver and then I got conscious it was policeman. I then dashed the 38 to my cousin. The police man then met up to me and put a gun to my stomach and was going to shoot me and a next policeman told him to leave me."

So what happened to your 38?
Leonard 'Ghost' Meyers,
"My family has my 38...I told them I am not afraid of them...I know they have a hit on all of us from George Street right. The police know about it, you understand me."
Alfonso Noble,
So their attempt to kill you is related to how they kill all of those people before?
Leonard 'Ghost' Meyers,
"Yes sir."
Alfonso Noble,
How is it related?
Leonard 'Ghost' Meyers,
"Because they have a hit on our heads. A lot of policemen know. I don't want to call the big man's name who has the hit but Jah isn't sleeping."
Alfonso Noble,
Why are they trying to kill you out?
Leonard 'Ghost' Meyers,
"I still don't really know what is happening...he one wants to sell all the drugs."
Myers claims that there is a hit out on him for $20,000.
