He is the son of former PUP Cabinet Minister David McKoy Sr. but tonight David McKoy Jr. is a convicted sex offender. This afternoon a jury of 8 found the 31-year-old McKoy Jr. guilty of attempted rape. He was immediately sentenced by Justice Troadio Gonzalez to 8 years in prison which is the minimum sentence under the law.
McKoy junior was charged for attacking a 24-year-old woman at a house in Belmopan on December 19th of 2003. The woman told police she was at a friend's house when Mckoy pushed her into a room, locked the door, threw her on a bed, and forced himself on her. She claimed that McKoy Jr. was about to rape her when she screamed for help.
David McKoy Jr. took the stand in his own defense and stated that he was in the room with the girl but she wasn't forced in there. He told the court that the girl willingly allowed him to perform oral sex on her.
In the end the jury of 8 took 2 and half hours to convict McKoy. It was only 8 jurors because the ninth juror fell ill yesterday and didn't show up to court. McKoy was defended by Simeon Sampson. Crown counsel Tracy Sosa was the prosecutor.
