They were two brothers accused of one murder but tonight one brother is free and the other is facing the death penalty. After three hours of deliberations, at 7:05 last night a jury in the Supreme Court convicted 26 year old Wayne Martinez of murder while acquitting his older brother 29 year old Norris Martinez.
The brothers were accused of killing 40-year-old Reno Castillo on October 10th of 2005 on Newton Barracks. Castillo was stabbed between his eyes and in his chest. The brothers took the stand in their own defense, admitting that they were in a fight with Castillo but denied stabbing him. They were defended by Michael Peyrefitte. Justice Adolph Lucas will sentence Wayne Martinez on June 7th.
