He sailed into Belize on a cruise ship yesterday but he never sailed back, instead 21-year-old tourist Bennett Whittley got to spend last night in the police holding cell. Shortly after 2 in the afternoon, police searched the New Hampshire resident on North Front Street and found 12.1 grams of weed on him.
Whittley's story in court was that when the officers approached him, he offered to cooperate if they ensure he makes it back on the ship on time - something like a street-side plea bargain. He said they told him yes and they searched him and found the weed which amounts to little more than a stick.
Still, Whittley was charged with drug possession. He spent last night in the holding cell at the Queen Street Station and appeared in court this morning where he pleaded guilty. Magistrate Roberto Ordonez fined him $250 plus $5 in court cost. His father paid it and both left Belize today, a day later than their ship.
