33 year old Alfred Billary in 2006 he almost killed his common law wife and his stepson in a jealous, delusional rage. Well today he went before the judge to answer for his murderous knife attack. I was there along with his wife when he copped a guilty plea.
Erna Berthran, Survivor - Domestic Abuse
"Yes, I ready long time, I ready long time. Just seeing him in court let me just get more mad you know if I could have given him time myself, I would give him. That is how I feel this morning in court."
Thirty eight year old Alfred Billary did not show any signs of remorse instead he was smiling as he left the Supreme Court building in handcuffs after he pled guilty not to attempted murder but to the lesser charge of grievous harm. Billary is the man who repeatedly stabbed his common law wife thirty five year old Erna Berthran and his thirteen year old son but also threatened to chop her up in pieces including Berthran's four year old daughter.
Erna Berthran,
"I could not even sleep last night because then I flash back on everything that happen that time you know. Come up to court to see him, my eyes just got
full you know for the things. I will not say that he treat me bad, you know we had good times but anytime he start the drugs that is when the bad start you know and coming. Up the court and seeing him this morning, really made me feel like let them throw away the key, do not let him come out back you know because why he had to do me this. If he say he love me then why he will do me that. You cannot love a person and want to kill the person at the same time."
The couple lived together in this dwelling in the Lake Independence area but one year into the relationship things quickly escalated. Following a stabbing incident last April police arrested Billary. Berthran says as she watched Billary in court today she started to remember all the violence that she now hopes has ended in the Supreme Court.
Erna Berthran,
"So while raising up, That is when he come and stab me. So I say boy the kill you want to kill me? He still did not answer me, so my son hear and he jumped off the bed and punched him off his foot. I never know that I done get three stabs, I never know that I get three stabs. So the one in my leg that is the one that made me drop because I felt like my leg started to cramp. So my son helped me up and that is when he came and stabbed my son in his back.
He wake up my two year old daughter, my four year old daughter sorry and he held a knife to her throat and he said, I have to kill she because she could talk. So if I kill you, she will talk against me. So I tell him why you want to kill my baby and he say will let you watch how I cut off she leg and then I will cut you up into parts."
Alfred Billary is expected to be sentence on January twenty fifth. In the meantime Erna says she is prepared to move on with her life but prays that justice will prevail.
Erna Berthan,
"I would a want they give him a long time to let me free myself because he even said he no care what time they give him anytime he come out the me he is coming for you know and I really now ant my son to get into trouble."
Berthran says the only regret she has is allowing Billary to come back into her life but she was afraid, today she says she is much stronger woman who only wants the best for her children.
Billary faces a maximum of 10 years in jail for the alternative charge of use of deadly means of harm with intent to cause grievous harm and a maximum of 5 years for the alternative charge of grievous harm upon his step-son.
