A father who last week admitted that he repeatedly raped and eventually impregnated his 16-year-old daughter was sentenced today. He asked for forgiveness but got none from his daughter and certainly not from Justice Herbert Lord who sentenced him to 6 years in prison. At today’s sentencing - his now 18 year old daughter said that between March and April of 2005 – when she was 16 - her father raped her and threatened to “cripple” her mother if the girl told. Today in her victim’s impact statement – the 18-year-old, now a mother of two, asked the court how could she explain to her daughter that her grandfather is also her father.
Apart from asking for forgiveness – the father says at the time he was drinking a lot and taking drugs because he found out his wife was cheating on him. That wasn’t reason enough for Justice Herbert Lord who handed down the six year sentence – one year less than the maximum sentence for incest. The child born as a result of the incest has been put up for adoption.
