Less than 12 hours after he was released from jail – 22 year old Floyd MacFadzean was murdered on Friday night. A remarkably short spell of freedom – but what’s unbelievable is that he was killed inside his home. Here’s more.

Keith Swift Reporting,
On Friday morning 22 year old Floyd McFadzean returned to his home here on Cumberbatch Street – after spending six months in jail. Less than 12 hours later – at 9 p.m. – 7NEWS was there as police carried McFadzean’s dead body out of his yard on a stretcher. As the body was carted away down Cumberbatch Street, the story of another inexplicable murder started to unfold.

Floyd had been murdered, shot three times, in his house. His mom Maria McFadzean wasn’t at home at the time of the murder.

Maria McFadzean, Mother of Murder Victim
“I don’t really see why they had to kill him inside my house because he was at home, he wasn’t on the street. He just came out of jail

that said day, the Friday. He came to visit me at my work. He was such a darling child to me. What he does on the street I don’t know because we as mothers, we don’t know what our kids do out there on the streets. We only know what they do at home and all I could say is that right about now I am hurt more than you would ever know. But I pray and I ask God to give me the strength that I need to get through this.

I just want to ask them why they would come inside my house and kill my son when he was at home.”

He was at home along with a friend. The family says the gunman entered through this screen door at the back and ambushed Floyd. He was shot in the kitchen and ran outside and collapsed here at the bottom of the steps where he bled out. The sand covers the blood he left there.

Felicia McFadzean, Sister of Murder Victim
“When I came home I found him back there in our back yard laying down on the ground in his blood and in my house was messed up with blood; by our refrigerator had blood spatter. That is maybe where he got the first shot I assume. But I don’t know, they are brave because they came way into my mom’s house.”

Neither Felicia nor her mom knows why Floyd was killed. He had just been released from jail for reportedly assaulting a woman. They believe that had nothing to do with his murder.

Felicia McFadzean,
“He wasn’t in jail for no aggravated assault. He was in jail because he owed court and that is the reason why they picked him up because he had the aggravated assault with her but to say he went to jail for that, that is not what happened. He went to jail because he owed the court.”

Keith Swift,
How long was he in jail for?

Felicia McFadzean,
“Six months.”

Maria McFadzean,
“If you are a person that is in jail for six months, how could you have beef out there with somebody for six months and you are not on the streets. You just came out of jail, all you want to do is be home with your family – just relaxing and just be yourself- be free. He told me he is free, your son is free, and he is here. What can he do to somebody that bad that just within a couple hours that they would want to kill him? I don’t Keith, I don’t really know.”

What Maria McFadzean knows is that she’s lost a son – and Felicia a brother.

Felicia McFadzean,
“When he came out he said, ‘I am good for a job at BDF.’ I said okay and he told my cousins that Monday he would be going to the BDF because they told me to come in and go see them and September he was going to go into the BDF. I never know that at the end of the day my brother wouldn’t have even get to see the rest of the family and he just gaan right so.”

Maria McFadzean,
“It is a part of you that feels numb, so numb, knowing that you give birth to that child, you give him life and somebody come and takes that life away from him for reason that you don’t know. It is not a nice feeling Keith, it is really not a nice feeling. But as I said to you, I am a praying mother and I ask God for the strength that I need and he will give it to me.”

Felicia McFadzean,
“Can’t explain it, you have to be in our shoes to know what it feels like. I can’t explain that. But what my mom says, God sees everything. He is not asleep. He will see.”

And on Friday night, that same kind of stunned disbelief gripped loved ones and friends at the scene of the crime – as they tried to figure how this could have happened. Reporting for 7NEWS – I am Keith Swift.

The man who was with him in the house has been questioned and released. Police still have one suspect detained. They are also investigating a report that a neighbor had threatened him.
