There was a murder in Cayo early this morning, and the victim is a 20 year old who was shot by a bar owner. It happened after midnight at Cinco Banderas Bar in the Santa Cruz area of Santa Elena Town. So far, police have determined that a fight started in the bar where four men including the deceased were trying to take a firearm from an immigration officer who has not been identified.
Bar owner 46 year old Benjamin Mendez then tried to break it up and that’s when Cstellanos punched him in the face. Mendez then ran out of his own bar, he claims being chased by a knife wielding Castellanos. That’s when he took out his licensed 9 milimeter pistol and shot Castellanos in the chest and he died on the spot.
Police have detained Castellanos but judging from the circumstances of the crime where self defence may have been involved are not sure if they will charge him.
