There was a broad daylight shooting on Faber’s Road extension this afternoon and while no one was shot – it left a neighbourhood badly shaken up. Andrew Staine says he was driving on Faber’s Road when he was shot at by a man on a bicycle. 10 minutes later Everal Gray, who lives on Faber’s Road, says his house was shot at by the same man on a bicycle. Two lawless shootings in the early afternoon and our 7NEWS team was there shortly after. Keith swift has the story of how it all unfolded.
Keith Swift Reporting,
Eyewitnesses say the man driving this Mazda 626 veered into a man that was riding this bicycle. That’s when the man on the bike pulled out a gun and started firing. That gunfire sent the car straight into him –and into this ditch. And as the many bullet holes on the car attest, he wasn’t reluctant to pull the trigger – some say they heard close to a dozen gunshots. An eyewitness told us off camera what he saw.
Eyewitness to Shooting,
“A young man was riding his bike, going up to towards the entrance of Faber’s Road and there was a car, a Mazda car coming into him at the
same time and when he saw this car, he obviously knew these guys and so he drew his gun. When he drew his gun on the car, the car had no choice but to swerve into him and they swerve and at the same time the young man fled his bike and
his bike was left under his car, in the ditch. So the car swerved into the ditch and the young man came off his bike and started to open fire at the car and disappeared from the scene.”
Keith Swift,
How many gunshots did you hear?
Eyewitness to Shooting,
“Approximately about ten gunshots I heard.”
It was a broad daylight shooting in a residential neighbourhood which left one resident shaken.
Area Resident,
“I was on the computer and my cousin was at the door sitting and my brother was nearby coming to the door and all we heard was gunshots. So as my brother entered, as he was coming out of the door he saw when the vehicle bumped the bicycle and so we all went to the bathroom and we heard about like about 21 gunshots and I was so scared because Sunday an accident happened right in front of house and another one today. This life out here serious.”
Police have four persons detained pending an investigation. The conflict is also being mediated by the Conscious Youth Development Program.
