He allegedly stole a bike, then ran from a pursuing police officer, got shot in the buttocks by that same officer and then, later on escaped from police guard at the hospital. But one of the city’s most notorious crime figures, Stackles Monsanto is back behind bars tonight. He was caught over the weekend and yesterday appeared in court charged for one count of escape, one count of theft and one count of assaulting a police officer.
Still recovering from his police inflicted gunshot wound, he appeared before Magistrate Albert Hoare where he pleaded not guilty on all counts but was denied bail. Monsanto is due back in court on July 16, where he will be standing trial for damage to property charge pending in a separate incident.
Stackles was also shot in August of last year, in that case by a Chinese grocer he allegedly tried to rob.
