Details are sketchy at this time but tonight we can confirm that there was a murder in the Corozal Free Zone late this afternoon. From what 7NEWS has been able to gather, the murder victim has been identified as Willie Braun, a Mennonite construction supervisor who worked at SP Plaza.
Information is that Braun was sitting inside his office when a truck pulled up to deliver a load of cement. Braun reportedly left the building and went outside to the back of the compound to meet with the customers. It is then reported that several Mexican men who were waylaying him fired several shots. It is reported that five of the bullets caught Braun including one to the middle of his forehead. 12 expended shells were recovered form the scene.
The shooters then fled from the area but at this time it is not known if the killers did get out of the free zone and that is why we understand all gates were closed and a search is being conducted. It is the first murder on record inside the Free Zone. We’ll have more on this tomorrow.
