Yesterday’s total bust was two containers 80 boxes with about 10 million pills valued at over $20 million. Make no mistake, it is huge and reports reaching 7NEWS tell us that police plan to incinerate it tomorrow.
The other bit of interesting news is about the company in whose name it was imported. As we told you yesterday, both shipments were consigned to a company in the Free Zone called Me Agape International Limited. Initial reports were that the owner, who is reportedly Mexican, has disclaimed knowledge of the shipment.
But a check of the Corozal Free Zone companies list for August of 2008 shows the owners of that company is Florencio Marin Jr., Martha Marin, and Alva Marin. Marin Jr. is a PUP Area Representative for the Corozal Southeast Division. His father was also past Chairman of the zone and he was the security contractor. But documents provided to 7NEWS by his attorney show that in July of this year, the Marins sold the company to a Mexican Jesus Solis Song.
According to the Customs broker, in early August Song is the one who asked the shipper to change the name of the recipient from Me Agape to GE Logistics – which is his name for the company he bought. Police have been in contact with Song and information tells us that the latest position of the Me Agape owners is that they gave someone else permission to use their company’s name.
Police will have to look into that story but the bottom line at this time is that while they have millions of pills to destroy, they have no one to charge for it.
