Two children left home alone started a fire in Vista del Mar on Saturday morning. Their home was destroyed by the fire and 3 year old Timothy Cord received burns to the right forearm and top of the right ear while his 5 year old brother Kiyson Cord was unhurt. And now police say the adults were wrong to have left them home alone. Police have now charged their guardians – 31 year old Kimberlin Alford and 47 year old Wilford Tucker with a count each of child neglect.
Neighbours called about the fire at around 10:15 on Saturday morning. When they responded, the house was on fire and 5 year old Kiyson had a lighter in his hand while 3 year old Timothy had a candle in his hands. All contents in the house were destroyed.
The boys were placed in custody of the Social Services Department and police tracked down Alford and Tucker. They were arraigned in court this morning and both pleaded not guilty.
$3,000 bail was offered to both guardians but only 31 year old Kimberlin Alford was able to meet the bond. She told our court reporter that she left the house to seek medical attention for her a sick 8 year old child. She says the boys were sleeping when she left.
