And so, this afternoon at a press conference, Requena moved away from his declaration that it was an offensive grenade. He did so by explaining what they did and didn’t find in Saturday morning’s search.

Major James Requena, Bomb Expert
“My major search Saturday morning was focused on trying to retrieve the fly-off lever which would give us specifics as it contains data as to regards the explosive that was being used. We weren’t able to find it and up to now we haven t found it. But while doing those searches in the entire yard, a neighbor to the rear of that residence called to our attention that they had glass louvers and it was damaged.

All I can say is that based on the little evidence we have recovered so far is that it definitely is a high explosive fragmentation device. In my technical expertise I would say it is a grenade. However if I don’t find any other conclusive evidence, I cannot put all of that together. We know that it is a device that caused an explosion, we know we recovered that are concurrent or relating to a grenade. What type of grenade, I cannot say at this moment unless somewhere or the other we find the fly-off lever.”

Police are still investigating and do not have any suspects. They announced today that they have stepped up patrols, activating officers who had been doing desk work. They will also increase stop- and search operations as well as traffic checks.
