The Customs Department is tonight at the center of another criminal investigation involving theft. But this time it isn’t a container of pseudo-ephedrine pills, it is 2 and possibly 6 guns that have been stolen from inside a safe room at Customs.

The guns were stolen from the Queen’s Bond Warehouse which is a secure room on the Customs compound where firearms and expensive electronics are kept until the owner pays the duty. That’s just what one gun owner tried to do with his 12 gauge shotgun earlier this week, but when they checked for it in the room, it was missing along with 5 other guns.

An audit has confirmed that a 9 milimeter handgun was also definitely stolen from the warehouse. The head of the Custom Department’s Investigations Unit Ian Haylock says they are still following the paper trail to determine if another four missing guns were stolen or had been cleared by the owners. Those are a 357 magnum, a Baretta pistol, a.22 rifle, and a 12 gauge shotgun.

Up to this evening, police were conducting interviews at the Customs Department. We do know only two officers had access to the room and their keys have been confiscated pending the outcome of the investigation. Those two officers have not been suspended.
