A number of Belize City businesses were preyed upon by armed robbers this weekend. Around 8:00 on Sunday night at Diamond Motel which is at mile four on the Northern Highway, manager Chiung Hsea Yeh was at the hotel with an employee when three men walked into her office. Two of them asked about room rates while the third pulled out a gun and demanded money. All three went behind the counter and looked for money, but when they found none, they robbed the women of two gold rings. Still looking for a stash, one of the men kicked open the door to 54 year old Kui Kang Hsea’s room and fired two shots at him. No one was hit and the men left in a white pickup which was parked on the highway.

And on Friday afternoon, armed men robbed Quality Supermarket on East Canal. Around 2:30, two men entered, one of them pulled out a.38 revolver, ordered a female customer to lie on the floor and ordered 22 year old cashier Dennis Ortiz to open the cash register and they snatched up an undisclosed amount of money. For good measure, they also snatched a cell phone. Police say they are looking for a suspect who is known to them.
