Last night we told you about Lovina Canto the woman who fainted at the court building after police prosecutor indicated he wanted to jail her entire family for gun charges.

Well, her son Jason Canto – the man with the dreads seen carrying her in this picture - is the one police are really intent on pressuring. First he was charged for possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol – but when his father took the heat for that, today police charged him with possession of more than the permitted number of rounds for a licensed 38 pistol.

And the DPP appeared herself to argue the case while Michael Peyrefitte appeared for Canto before Magistrate Edd Usher. He argued that the charge was already abandoned on Monday and he had already pleaded not guilty. But DPP Chery Lynn Branker-Taitt argued that it is a new charge although it arises from the same police search.

Those arguments took all morning and this afternoon, Magistrate Usher ruled in favor of the DPP and with that, he read the new charge to Canto. Canto who pleaded not guilty to the charge was denied bail due to the Firearms Act and was remanded into custody until May 13.

He joins his father who is remanded on a gun possession charge. As for the confusion over his gun licenses, the confusion over identical serial numbers on gun license was between a shotgun and a 9mm pistol, not a nine and a 38. By best accounts the confusion appears to have been a clerical error as he had been licensing them like that for 16 years and no one picked up on the error.
