The parking lot at the City Centre was crowded last night as fans gathered to watch Interoffice basketball. But while they were busy inside, a thief was outside breaking car windows and stealing whatever he could find inside. But someone – described by police as a tall red-skinned man wearing a white shirt - saw him in the act and chased after him. This unidentified man also shot at the car thief, striking him in the calf. That forced him to a stop and that’s when a crowd of what we are told were mostly youths gathered around him and started beating him up.

Police were called and they found 20 year old Aaron Jimenez on the ground in front of the City Center stairs surrounded by a mob with the gunshot wound to his calf. He was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released. The police have not determined who shot him and considering the vigilante climate and the public rage against thieves, don’t seem in a great hurry to do so.

In a related note, it is apparent that no charges will be brought against De Cai Lu – the Belmopan businessman who chased down and shot Rufino Cho – the man who chopped him and snatched his deposit bag.
