Yasser Safa was this afternoon allegedly robbed of his gun by his two brothers – during which he was critically assaulted. That is about all police has told us. Press Officer Clemente Palacio says that one of the brothers is detained and the other is at large. If the name Yasser Safa sounds familiar it is because he has been accused of forgery related charges in the past.
And in an update to our story on the incident on the canal side –police dispute reports that they fired a gunshot. What we do know is that officers stopped a man at the corner of East Canal and Church Street and pulled out his licensed gun, inspected the magazine, and checked his paperwork. They then released him and shortly after entering a nearby barbershop - he was robbed of his gun –by three youths who probably knew he had it because the police officers took it out in front of everyone.
