In the past two days, we’ve told you about under-deposits at the City Council and missing money at the Western Border Management Office, and now there’s one more case of fleeced public funds – and it’s at the Government treasury. 7News has received multiple credible reports which say that the Accountant General Dorothy Bradley is investigating a case of thousands of dollars misappropriated from the pension fund. Our reports say that a staffer made out bogus pension checks to fictitious persons or non pensioners and those checks were cashed.

We spoke with Accountant General Bradley today and she was very tight lipped saying only that, quote “we have seen irregularities within the treasury department.” She confirmed that an investigation is ongoing but would not discuss figures or confirm names that we have heard.

The Prime Minister today also confirmed that the Financial Secretary has told him about it. Barrow, though had no specifics and could only say that he understood from the Fin. Sec. that it was a quote, “fairly sizeable sum” and that someone had been bilking government funds at the treasury. PM Barrow could not specify if the money has been fleeced form the pension fund.

And while we keep following that one, the Prime Minister also confirmed that he has directed that the police should be called in to investigate missing funds at the Western Border Management Office. The PM said he only heard about the case today and was surprised to find that no police complaint had been made. As we told you, in that case, site manager for the western Border Management office Julio Santos was fired last week under the suspicion of involvement in misappropriated funds. His former boss, General Manager Gonzalo Rosado said that at this time, the findings were inconclusive and that’s why the police had not been brought in. Santos has denied any knowledge of wrongdoing and said he didn’t even know that he had been fired.
