Eighteen year old Arlene Garoy has until May thirty first, 2010 to pay $10,000 or she will spend a total of three years behind bars. The fine was levied against Garoy for trafficking one hundred and twenty two grams of cannabis.
The young resident of number fourteen Faber’s Road was busted around twelve thirty on the afternoon of April third, 2009 when she was seventeen years old. Initially Arlene Garoy’s cousin twenty two year old Lloyd James was also charged but it was later dismissed against him.
Police were on a mobile patrol when they pulled up at a home at the corner of Caesar Ridge and Faber’s Roads where several persons were observed on the veranda and appeared to be gambling. Upon seeing the cops, some of people ran including Arlene Garoy who dashed into a nearby house. Police pursued Garoy and that is when Corporal Mark August saw the young woman throw a black plastic bag into a room and then she went into another room.
When Corporal August retrieved the bag it contained the one hundred and twenty two grams of cannabis. Arlene Garoy and Lloyd James who were both standing in the corridor were arrested and charged. According to court reports Arlene Garoy gave a statement from the dock in which she said she did not know her boyfriend was dealing with drugs.
Garoy did call a witness but Emilio Rivera’s testimony did not help the accused in anyway when he told the court he did not know what happened inside the house she ran into.
