She was the main cashier at Income Tax Department, charged with three counts of theft after over six thousand dollars of the government’s money was stolen. But tonight the accused twenty five year old Natasha Kingston is a free woman. That is because in court yesterday there was no evidence to link the former employee to the crime.
The matter was heard before Chief Magistrate Margaret McKenzie. The prosecution called five witnesses to the stand. But after listening to the testimonies given by the employees of the Income Tax Department and after the prosecution closed its case, defense attorney Arthur Saldivar told the court that his client had no case to answer. Why? Well according to attorney Saldivar the evidence led by the prosecution disclosed no offense. Chief Magistrate McKenzie agreed with the defence submission and dismissed the charges against Natasha Kingston
The money that was reportedly stolen from the Income Tax Department apparently was taken over three separate occasions. The first count of theft occurred between October eighteenth and November fifteenth of 2007. The second count of theft occurred between November nineteenth and December fifteenth, 2007. And the third count of theft occurred the following year between January sixteenth and February first, 2008. The missing money was never recovered.
