There is growing concern tonight about the gang situation in the village of Roaring Creek. Brandon Jones was stabbed on Friday and he later died. And then just yesterday in broad daylight two young men were shot in Roaring Creek. 27 year old Dale Matute says that around 11 on Tuesday morning he had just finished playing basketball when gunshots rang out and seconds later he realized he had been hit.
Dale Matute, Shooting Victim
“All of a sudden I heard one gunshot and when I heard that gunshot I fell on my side and I feel like something hit me. So when I looked on myself I saw blood on my shoulder and then I noticed I get shot. So now when I got up and I looked around to see if I saw anybody, I didn’t see nobody and I ended up walking on the road and when I looked at myself I saw my whole hand here bore up and my foot mi bore up and I got a bore on my face here.
I just stick to myself. I don’t harm nobody or give no kind of trouble. So I don’t see how somebody just could come and shot me for no reason at all because me noh trouble nobody. So somebody chance me out of my rights but I am not looking for no revenge or none of that kind of thing. I will leave them to the good Lord above.”
Supt. Aaron Guzman, Commander – Belmopan Police
“We don’t know who shot those two persons. Obviously it was with a shotgun because of the amount of bullets. So we are asking anyone with

information to come forth and assist us in the investigation.”
18 year old Errol Gabourel was also shot. He was hit in his ribcage, leg, and foot. Area Representative Ramon Witz met with some of the youths this afternoon. It was supposed to be a mediation meeting but only one group showed up. Still they committed to keep the peace. Officer Commanding the Belmopan Police Station Superintendent Aaron Guzman doesn’t believe Friday’s murder and Wednesday’s shooting are related.
Supt. Aaron Guzman,
“Some people are suggesting that the incident with Brandon Jones was some rivalry. As our investigation is showing right now, it is not. It is a complete separate thing. None of the fellows from the Matute group of friends were involved or were at that house that Brandon got into an altercation and got the injuries which he has succumbed to. So that is just to clear the air where that is concerned. I have to echo the sentiments of the Chairman of Roaring Creek in saying that crime is everybody’s problem. It is not only the police. Normally we only respond after something has occurred. And so those residents in Roaring Creek should seek to call the police and get us involved ahead and they themselves should seek to get involved in their community and try to put things to right before it gets out of control.”
We are told that Witz hopes to have a separate meeting with the youths from the Another World area of Roaring Creek.
