Three City Council employees remain detained tonight pending the outcome of an investigation into missing monies at City Hall. As we reported last night, the three employees of the Revenue and Valuation Department were accused by the senior management of the city council of the misappropriation of a figure in the vicinity of sixty thousand dollars. Checks in the computer system indicate that they colluded to under-record tax payments to the council. The persons or business paying would get a receipt but the money – it is alleged – did not enter the system.

The Council put out a release today to allay the fears of tax payers who fear they may have to pay two times. The statement says “all monies paid to the council have been entered into the system and no receipts are missing.” Police could not comment on when the three staffers will be taken to court – but they have now been in custody for 48 hours.
