A taxi driver is in jail tonight after he was busted with 676 grams of heroin. Police say that on Friday – based on a tip – they intercepted a green taxi van parked in front of McKesey Meats on Mahogany Street. Police say 31 year old Moises Williams was the driver. They searched him but found nothing incriminating. They then searched the van and that is where they allegedly found the heroin in a black plastic bag wrapped in transparent tape and hidden under the driver’s seat.
Williams reportedly told police that he was given the heroin by a woman to deliver as part of a sale. Williams pleaded not guilty in court today alongside his attorney Dickie Bradley. Magistrate Sharon Frazer told him that because of the quantity of heroin, she couldn’t off him bail. He was remanded to prison until May 17th.
Street sources say the heroin is part of a substantial quantity that is circulating in Belize but that is said to be of poor quality.
