On Friday Devon Sankey's mother called our news team to protest her son's arrest for murder, saying he was innocent. Still, The Seventeen Year old charged with the murder of Renan Reneau was arraigned before Magistrate Alberta Perez yesterday at the Belize Family Court. Devon Sankey is accused of the shooting death of Reneau which took place on Thursday, April 8th. No plea was taken from Sankey, nor was bail offered, because the offence is indictable. He was remanded into custody at the Wagner Juvenile facility until May 26th. Police reports are that Reneau was at the corner of Supal Street and Kut Avenue socializing with a female friend when his assailant rode up on a bicycle and shot him in his chest. Reneau was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Enid Williams, the mother of Sankey told Seven News in an interview last Friday, that her son his innocent of the charges, and can produce alibis to testify that he was asleep at home at the time of the shooting. Williams says she has been told that the major evidence against her son is that he was identified with a silver ring.
