The last time we saw customs security officer Shaka Jones, he was patrolling the road to Botes Mexico and intercepting contraband. He had his issued firearm, a nine millimeter pistol on prominent display. But yesterday, he was a long way form those patrols, he was in Magistrate's court charged with a firearm offence.
Miguel Guillen, a hot dog vendor on West Collet Canal claimed that at 7:30 on the night of Saturday, April 18th, Jones bought two juices from him and paid with a 20 dollar note. Guillen had no change so he went over the bridge to get some. When he got back he got into an argument with Jones, whom he claims slapped him. Guillen says he grabbed a knife to defend himself and Jones pulled out his gun.
Jones was charged with aggravated assault with a firearm and harm. Chief Magistrate Margaret Mckenzie explained that she could not grant him bail because it is a firearm offence. She remanded Jones into custody until May 21st.
