And while that case is in court, Simmons also spoke about two other liquor licenses in the area. Those are for the place called Alaska, and New Hope Restaurant. He says "Alaska", which draws dozens of beer guzzling patrons daily was petitioned against, but the residents never followed through.
Wilmot Simmons, Chairman - Belize District liquor Licensing Board

"Alaska went through this last year. The people of that area, I thinks its 2nd street, wrote a petition to us and complained about Alaska and similar to this Mr. Berges case we advised Alaska what was going to happen, we gave Alaska a copy of the complaint of the objection and according to the law they had to be invited to the meeting to give them an opportunity to defend themselves. At that particular meeting Alaska was being discussed for a suspension of their license, no one showed up from that particular area who signed that petition, no one. They were informed that they had to show up. So that case was really thrown out. They sent a letter and when the time came for them to sit down and bring out the charges verbally and explain why it was a nuisance they did not show up. Alaska showed up and so we couldn't entertain that letter as such and that was thrown out."
As for New Hope, Simmons says he has already warned that establishment that they must not allow drinking outside the establishment.
