Over the last couple of weeks Operation Jaguar has been unleashed on the mean streets of the city to curb the violence and reduce the number of illegal firearms in circulation. While City Police have their hands full patrolling the crime hotspots, a trio of police in Cayo are accused of extorting a motorist on the poorly lit and scarcely trafficked Bullet Tree Road. 44 year old farmer, Belamino Garcia says he fell into their trap. He reported that on Wednesday of this week at around 8:40 P.M., whilst driving on the Bullet Tree Road, he was stopped by a marked blue Police vehicle that was coming from the direction of Bullet Tree Village. Three uniformed male Police officers approached him. Garcia said a dark skinned officer then told him that if he wanted to keep driving he would have to pay them Five Hundred dollars or his truck would be confiscated. He responded that he only had Three Hundred dollars on him and gave the money to one of the officers he was able to identify as Police Constable Co. He was then allowed to leave, but before he drove off heard Constable Co refer to the dark complexion male officer as Myers. Garcia was not able to identify the third officer involved in this alleged extortion ring. According to a police press report, the incident is being investigated.
